Thank you for posting your wonderful Thanksgiving pictures! Call me crazy, but I burst into tears when I saw the family pictures. I especially cried when I saw the picture of Aunt Jeannie and your mom. And I am still crying!!! And yes, Aunt Jeannie makes the best pecan pie on the planet!
Thanksgiving this year was a passing of the torch. Now that we have a house and the in-laws are empty nesters, it was logically my turn. Both mothers were excited to not to have to cook a turkey.
Baking is my passion but because I was hosting the meal, I was able to contract it out. My mom made the rolls and the fudge. Fudge is part of some crazy traditon my mom started years ago. My mother-in-law made the pies and jell-o salad. Even though we only had 14 people for Thanksgiving, my mother-in-law insisted on bringing 8 pies! I love her to pieces though. Because I contracted out the baking, I got to focus on the cooking. I tried new recipes and cooked to my hearts content. My sister, Amber, came up the night before, so she helped me in the kitchen. We had a blast cooking and chopping and washing dishes together. I think I caught a little glimpse of what it's like when those Matthews sisters get together and cook.
We finished the day off with a brisk walk around the neighborhood and over to the park. I can't wait until it's my turn agin next year!
Thanks again for the good cry and the wondreful commentary on your Thanksgiving!
