The Five Day Festivus.

3 day weekends are nice. 4 day weekends are elusive and invaluable. Capturing a 5 day weekend is cause for rapturous celebration! Yes, yours truly bagged a 5 day weekend: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday - work free. In one shot, I single-handedly made up for all the holidays, parties, couch-potato-ing, and visiting with friends that I missed while spending much of last year on the road. Karmically speaking, I was due. I'm happy to report that I also took this opportunity to be completely non-productive and to let no moment pass where I wasn't sleeping, laying by my kid-infested pool, seeing a show, dancing with friends, or playing soccer with Boris. Here's the list of highlights for the weekend...

Doing MJQ Wednesday night. Watching Boris wear out Bugsy and Loki (he's starved for attention these days). Seeing Soundtrack of Our Lives play mostly acoustic for about 30 people at Smith's. Sitting by the pool. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy with the Atlanta Symphonie Orchestrat at Chastain. War of the Worlds (3 out of 5 stars, if you're interested). Finishing a new track (a cover of an old Femmes tune).Heavy Mojo at East Andrews upstairs. Flexing my white man's Salsa / Merengue / Cumbia footwork at Loca Luna. Sitting by the pool. Bad Techno on the penthouse patios of the Metropolis. Mulching and planting a flowerbed in my front yard. Standing on the roof of 1660 Peachtree and being able to see all three major fireworks shows across the city at the same time - snap crackle pop.

Now, can someone please give the rest of the week off so I can have a vacation from my vacation?

Hello, my friend. Glad you had some time off to enjoy. And glad you had some time to do a cover of the Femmes, because if you remember, I'm a huge VF fan. So, uh, don't hold out, okay? I can't wait to hear it. Have a great day!

At the moment I was recovering from a broken heart, my girlfriend whom I came here for from Puerto Rico, had just dumped me... and there I was in Buckhead, at the mercy of a one of my good comrades from the island that I ran into by pure coincidence, or one of those things people call destiny... sleeping on a couch for 3 months or so, not knowing what great things where about to happen. That's when I met Matt, at the Skate 2000 shop in Buckhead. It was a Thursday afternoon, and actually, who I met first was Lee!
He invited me to the skate, so I went, then I met Matt, who for my surprise spoke perfect spanish. Then, after the skate, the Tin Roof Cantina, an invitation to the old Q that night, where Matt hooked me up with a chick right away. I got laid next day, Matt cured my broken heart without even knowing it!
Matt's one of the best things to ever happen to me in the city, and probably in the world.
Viva El Gran Mateo!
