Database Failure. Satisfaction Failure.
I currently use Total Choice Hosting for my web hosting. Up until tonight, I've been really satisfied with them. No more.
When I logged in tonight to write a blog entry, I gasped and went into a mild state of shock. All my postings from this past week were lost! Included in the this loss were all your comments! Apparently, the hard drive on the server where they store my files was corrupted so they had to restore my data with a backup that was a week old. A week old?
It's hard to believe a company that sells web hosting and all the data associated with each acount would only backup weekly or monthly. Yet, their tech support specialist indicated that this is in fact the case.
" A TotalChoice Staff Member has replied to your Help Desk Ticket with the following:Hi,
We have only weekely and monthly backup on our servers. The data was restored from the the weekly backup.
Regards,
Tom XXXX,
Technical Support,
Totalchoice Hosting, L.L.C."
Obviously, they have the disk space to backup, so why not do it daily? If one is in the hardware and data business, you would assume that a daily automated backup routine would be logical. It takes little effort but goes a long way in ensuring customer satisfaction. Totalchoice, shame on you.
Shame on me for not reading the fine print.

Hey Bro,
Did their hard drive crash or did the smoking man from x files read your loose change entry? I guess we'll never know.

Damn YO!
I'm with you mi pana, that's shitty, very shitty... I manage over a 100 servers for BellSouth, and all the servers that require backups are backed up daily. I do file restores almost every day(dumb clients delete files and foolders all the time, not because hard drive failures, but that has happened to), and if we didn't do the backups like supposed to, our asses would be on the street faster than can you say "fired!". Most of the backups I run are done with Veritas Netbackup, very easy and effective to use. TotalCrap should be there new name, hehehe!

I post a link to a documentary that is an indictment to our current administration and my server goes down. Conspiracy Theorists unite!

We've been using http://www.8-95.com/ for our hosting needs over at Rockdud central (http://rockdud.net) but honestly my brother wrestles with all that so I have no idea what kind of issues he might have. From what I understand they are quite responsive to any special requests and occasional mishaps. Pretty pointless comment, eh?

Speaking of X-Files..did anyone watch the spinoff show The Lone Gunman?
It didn't even last a season but it was awesome and uber geeky.

LOL-That is such BS that they wouldn't back up daily. When I worked for TCTG we would encourage even our mom & pop store clients to back up daily! Ha...what a bunch of idiots.
