Dogs, Hogs and Square Watermelon. - REPOSTED

Ahhh.... today was a good, good day. I worked a half day, then hopped on the bike and road with my good friend Chris out to Ellijay, GA, about 70 miles from home. In Dawsonville, we stopped at Dogs and Hogs for a little mid-trip BBQ. The promise of small town BBQ is about the only thing that can make me want to take a break from meandering through the countryside, sun beating down, throttle open, pipes growling. Seriously. Pulled Pork and a cold Coke after the humidity and steam of country roads is Manna in my book.

We got to our buddy's shop minutes before the sky opened up and started DUMPING water-ballon sized gobs of water. Unfortunately, he wasn't there so we had to kill some time before he got back. Fortunately, his shop is on an amazing piece of mountain paradise, complete with a covered patio down by the river. Chris and I sat and watched the rain and talked for an hour or so. We talked bikes, women, work, friends, food. Quality man-time conversation.

Conversation turned to gardening, and Chris dropped some serious fruit knowledge on me. He told me about Japanese Square Watermelon. Yes. You read correctly. JAPANESE. SQUARE. WATERMELON. To properly understand the weight of these words, you must understand that in spite of my Tokyo Death Plague, I loved Japan. But even more importantly, I have a serious love, lust even, for the round green vixen of fruits - watermelon. Put Japan + watermelon in the same sentence, and you seriously have my attention.

The whole ride home, I had visions of square watermelons dancing in my head. Courtesy of Google, they can now dance in your head.

I can't wait to ride up to Elijay with you guys next time!!!!

Where does one get said square watermelon?

Square watermelons cost $82 each, roughly. That's a lot of money for a watermelon.
